Homeschooling high school can feel scary in the beginning. I worried that I was going to make some critical mistake that was going to ruin my daughter’s chances of getting into a ‘good’ college. I spent months reading everything I could about preparing homeschooled high school students for college until I felt confident that I could do this, and do this well. Thankfully, there are a few truly reassuring high school resources to make the process a little easier.

I know that I am not the only mom who worried about homeschooling high school. I hear those familiar homeschool mom worries all the time.

If you are excited to homeschool high school while also losing a bit of sleep, take comfort. You are not alone.

I will share my favorite high school resources, but first I want to explain my personal goals for homeschooling high school. Every family approaches homeschooling differently, and there is no one way that is best for every student or family.

The freedom to tailor the educational plan is one of the things that makes homeschooling great.

In a way, preparing to homeschool high school requires us to plan in reverse. We need to have an idea of what our children want to do after we hand them their diploma. We don’t have a crystal ball (wouldn’t that be helpful?), so we need to make our best guess after lots of discussion with our kids.

My homeschool mom responsibilities:

1. Provide a curriculum that challenges my daughter
2. Ensure my daughter completes all college pre-requisite classes
3. Help my daughter determine her career path
4. Maintain all of the paperwork necessary for college applications including transcripts, course descriptions, reading lists, and work samples

My homeschool student’s responsibilities:

1. Be an active participant in her education
2. Work hard and do her best
3. Ask for help when needed

I have no doubt that my daughter will have no trouble getting into college if we both do our parts and take advantage of these awesome high school resources.
