Halloween Boredom Basket

Each week I make a new boredom-busting basket for my kids. The basket sits on the dining room table and contains an assortment of things to keep Hannah and Ben happy and engaged. The boredom-busting baskets even sneak in a little learning.
Some weeks the boredom baskets have a theme or complement our curriculum. Other weeks they contain just a random mix of craft supplies and educational games from my craft cabinet and game bin.
I like to do something special around holidays, though, and to my kids, Halloween qualifies as a holiday.
They will only be excited about little things like this for a short while. I’m going to take advantage of it and enjoy it

I bought these stickers in a tub at Michaels last year. They were on clearance before Halloween and seem to last forever. Themed stickers are a great addition to seasonal boredom baskets because they are inexpensive and kids seem to really enjoy them.
These castles are leftover from our unit on Medieval Times last year. The problem with bulk materials, when you have a small family, is that the materials last forever. Dollar stores typically have seasonal mini erasers in their stationery section. I like to buy a pack or two whenever I see them. The kids can use these for nonstandard measurement, counting, addition, graphing, patterning, etc.

I like to put themed coloring pages in my boredom baskets because they are a free addition that can help develop fine motor skills. I add markers or crayons so the kids have everything they need right at their fingertips.
Word searches are always fun, and these are a great addition to the Halloween boredom basket. My kids like to quietly do word searches during read-aloud time. They are able to concentrate on the story, but the word search gives them something to do with their hands.
