Having a freezer full of healthy home cooked meals is a great time saver for busy moms. To make it easier, there are several companies that will plan your freezer cooking session. Once a Month Meals or MyFreezEasy are the two most popular freezer meal service providers.
On the surface, these two companies look very similar. They both provide meal plans, shopping lists, and directions to help you fill your freezer with home cooked meals. There are subtle differences though that will likely make one better than the other for your particular family. Let’s compare.

Which One is Right for You
I tried both freezer meal planning services so I could give you the inside scoop and help you find the right fit for your family. Once a Month Meals or MyFreezEasy?
Prepare an entire months worth of meals in one cooking day – This is a great choice if you only have (or want) to spend one day in the kitchen each month. Make no mistake though – it will be a long day. I enjoy cooking, but cooking so much in one day was very draining for me. My feet were killing me by the time I was cleaning up. The trade off is that the rest of the month I didn’t really spend much time in the kitchen. Read about my experience with Once a Month Meals.
Meals are frozen fully cooked – The Once a Month Meals plans require you to cook most of the meals on cooking day. This means that on the day you are going to eat one of the meals you only need to heat it up. This is helpful if you are very short on time.
Fancier meal options – Once a Month Meals offers recipes such as gluten free stuffed pork roast, sun-dried tomato and goat cheese stuffed chicken breast, and apple cinnamon pull apart rolls. The fancier meal options are great if you want to create restaurant quality meals at home. Going to your freezer and pulling out flank steak pinwheels definitely sounds appealing. If you are trying to break a restaurant habit, this might be very helpful. Fancier recipes do tend to cost more (more ingredients = more money) and take a little longer to prepare.
Breakfast options – Once a Month Meals provides freezer cooking fancy breakfast recipes such as puffed oven pancakes with glazed fruit and pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. This can really speed up breakfast, making it easier to get the school day started.
Prep smaller quantities in less time – Each MyFreezEasy meal plan consists of 5 dishes than can be prepped in about an hour. Of course you can always double the recipes to end up with 10 meals without much of an increase in time. If you really want to stock the freezer quickly, there is one meal plan with 20 recipes. The advantage of preparing only 5 meals at a time is that you don’t have to dedicate an entire day to freezer cooking. I usually stock my freezer with MyFreezEasy before I prepare dinner. This lets me only clean up the kitchen once.
Simple meals – MyFreezEasy contains simple recipes. These are recipes without a bunch of extra ingredients. It reminded me more of traditional family cooking – simple healthy meals that everyone enjoys but are not overly fancy. In my experience, these recipes tended to be cheaper than fancy meals.
Meals are frozen prepped, but not cooked – For the most part, MyFreezEasy meals are frozen uncooked. This is part of what makes the prep so fast. I did need to allow more time for actually cooking the meal on the day we ate it, but that wasn’t a big deal. Throwing a prepared casserole dish in the oven takes almost no work and I can still attend to other tasks while it bakes. Crockpot dishes were even easier because I could leave the house while they cooked.
Easy to customize a meal plan – Technically both MyFreezEasy and Once a Month Meals allow you to customize the meal plan, subbing out recipes, but I found it easier and less overwhelming on MyFreezEasy. Maybe because there are fewer recipes per freezer cooking session?
