We have reached the time of year where my kids are extremely distracted. They are so hyped up with the excitement of Christmas that they don’t want to sit still for our standard lessons. I don’t blame them. I don’t want to stick with the same old same old either. Instead, I weave Christmas lesson plans into our our regular curriculum. This plan helps keep us moving towards educational goals while also acknowledging the excitement in the air.
I discovered a long time ago, back in my classroom teacher days, that it is a lot easier to work with a child’s excitement than fight against it. Besides, it always makes me feel like a grinch to squash their Christmas excitement. I don’t want to stop teaching all of December and adding a few Christmas themed worksheets and activities is a fun way to continue practicing important skills. I sprinkle in Christmas lesson plans in addition to all of our family fun Advent activities.
