Every month I like to assemble a list of seasonally appropriate homeschool resources. I usually send the list to my email list, but realized that I can share these March homeschool ideas with you too!
Fun holidays are a great opportunity to sprinkle a little whimsy into your homeschool.
Take a few minutes to look over these March homeschool ideas. Add these activities to your lesson plans, reserve library books, and print out the free resources. Taking a few minutes to come up with a plan can save so much time later on! These great ideas work for a variety of ages and grade levels through the entire month of March.

17 Fun {and Educational} March Homeschool Ideas
Women’s History Month
March is Women’s History Month. Women have made huge contributions to society, but they are frequently left out of history books. We can change that.
Check out a few of these women’s history books for kids and teens. I like to add them to our curriculum whenever possible, but they are also great books to curl up on the couch and read together.
2 – National Read Across America Day
Read Across America Day is a day dedicated to encouraging kids to read. This day can be whatever you want it to be. A few ideas include:
- Spend the day snuggling with a basket of favorite books
- Host a book swap with friends – this works with children’s books or novels
- Read a new book
March 2nd also happens to be the birthday of the famous children’s author, Dr. Seuss
3 – World Wildlife Day
World Wildlife Day is the perfect time to learn about animals around the world. Virtual field trips can make this easy! Check out these free virtual zoo fields and virtual aquarium tours.
4 – National Grammar Day
National Grammar Day, observed on March 4th, began in 2008. On the surface, a day dedicated to grammar might seem boring, but homeschoolers can make just about anything interesting!
This is a great time to try the Rabbit Trails free lesson about homophones. Elementary-age kiddos can learn about homophones with a cute book and fun related activities.

14th – Popcorn Lovers Day
My son loves popcorn, so I’m sure he will be happy to celebrate Popcorn Lovers Day. Many afternoons he makes a bowl of homemade gourmet popcorn to snack on while we work on math.
All About Learning offers a free spelling review activity, Popcorn Party, that would be perfect for this day.

14 – Pi Day
Pi Day is March 14th. It is called Pi Day because the numerical way of saying March 14th is 3.14 and those are the first digits of pi.
This is one of our favorite homeschool fun days in my house. We look forward to celebrating it every year.
Read a special book, do a few special math crafts, and eat yummy round foods all day!
14 – Butterflies Day
March 14th is also Butterflies Day. It is a great day to learn all about butterflies with these butterflies activities. Young children always seem to love these activities.
17 – St. Patrick’s Day
There are so many fun ways to observe St. Patrick’s Day in your homeschool!
Saint Patrick’s Day is right in the middle of the month, March 17th. When my kids were younger they would always construct Leprechaun traps. They would spend hours on their STEM creations.

My kids never managed to catch a Leprechaun, but they didn’t mind too much because they always found gold foil-wrapped chocolate coins in the trap.
Now my kids are older and not as interested in building Leprechaun traps. We do have other fun activities though. There is something for just about every age!
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover Book Study – This book study is a cute way to learn language arts skills through literature.
St. Patrick’s Day tea with poetry – We gather a few themed poetry books and sit around the dining room table reading and nibbling on festive treats. The treats usually include green and rainbow snacks such as lime jello and fruit salad.
My kids have loved this in elementary school, middle school, and even high school.
St. Patrick’s Day art tray – An art tray can be a great way to encourage kids to embrace their creative side. They might be inspired to create a new fun craft or two.
St. Patrick’s Day math activities – These hands-on math activities make great math centers for preschool, kindergarten, or first grade students.
19 – First Day of Spring
Who else is eagerly awaiting the first day of spring? I love spring and can not wait until the official change of seasons. It is my favorite time of year. There are a few ways to incorporate the first day of spring into homeschool lessons.
Signs of Spring Walk – Go for a walk around your neighborhood and look for signs of spring.
All About Learning Spring Reading Bundle – This free printable has 10 excellent educational printable activities to help kids improve their reading skills.
Rabbit Trails Through Spring – This cute free mini-lesson is perfect for spring. The book ties in perfectly with fun activities and crafts.
20 – Flower Day
March 20th is also Flower Day. This is a great time to work on gardening! Depending on where you live you might be able to work in your garden or plan for your future garden.

21 – World Poetry Day
Springtime Poetry Teatime – Poetry teatimes are one of our favorite homeschool activities and the guides from Literature Adventures for Kids make it so easy! The guides include poetry suggestions, themed snack ideas, and even decor inspiration.

31 – National Crayon Day
National Crayon Day is a fun silly holiday for kids who love arts and crafts. Kids might enjoy recycling old broken crayons into fun-shaped crayons.
