How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a classic part of Christmas. Every year many families read the book and watch the movies. When my kids were little we always wrapped up our copy of this Dr. Seuss book as part of our Advent book countdown.

Now that they are teens they prefer to watch the movie (the Jim Carrey version is their favorite). This year they watched the movie while eating a few Grinch-themed snacks.

Read the book (or watch the movie) and then try these How the Grinch Stole Christmas activities.

Grinch Themed Snacks

Grinch Pudding

The How the Grinch Stole Christmas book mentions Who-pudding. I don’t know what Who-pudding would look or taste like, but I can imagine Grinch pudding.

Ingredients:

  • Vanilla pudding mix
  • Milk
  • Blue food coloring (Yes, blue, not green.)
  • Whipped cream
  • Green sprinkles

Directions:

  1. Prepare the vanilla pudding mix according to the package directions. My box of pudding mix only required being mixed with milk.
  2. Add blue food coloring. Vanilla pudding is not pure white, it has a yellow tinge. Adding blue food coloring to the yellow pudding creates a green Grinch pudding.
  3. Refrigerate the pudding according to the directions. This usually takes a few hours. I like to refrigerate the pudding in individual servings.
  4. When you are ready to serve the Grinch pudding top with whipped cream and green sprinkles.

Grinch Trail Mix

Save these How the Grinch Stole Christmas Activities so you can find them every year!

The Grinch spends quite a bit of time hiking up and down the mountain between his lair and the town of Who-ville. He needs a bit of Grinch trail mix to keep up his energy!

This recipe is incredibly flexible. I like a combination of sweet and salty in trail mix. A little bit of green transforms a regular snack into Grinch trail mix!

Here are the ingredients I used:

  • Kix cereal
  • Salted peanuts
  • Mini pretzels
  • Raisins
  • Green M&Ms

Just mix everything up and eat.

A sensory bin is a hands-on way for young children to build beginning math skills. Scooping and emptying containers help kids understand concepts such as volume.

Sensory bins are also a great way to keep little ones occupied while you are working nearby. Definitely set a few ground rules before putting out the sensory bin though. I also made sure my kids knew that the rice needed to stay IN the bin. Of course, some rice is bound to end up on the floor, but normal play produces much less of a mess than intentionally pouring rice out of the bin.

This How the Grinch Stole Christmas sensory bin contains bin filler and a few toys that represent the book.

I included:

  • Red, green, and white rice (Dying rice is easy!)
  • Heart cookie cutters in a few sizes
  • Scoops
  • Small Christmas tree
  • Plastic candy cane
  • Glittery bell ornaments
  • Pretend dog bone (in honor of Mac)

Just add everything to a lidded bin and let the free play happen!
