Years ago my daughter received her very first Fancy Nancy book as a Christmas gift. It was our first introduction to the extravagant Nancy, but my daughter was hooked instantly.

My daughter was about 6 at the time and was basically a human version of Fancy Nancy. She loved using big words, she adored glitter, and she was obsessed with Paris. She read every Fancy Nancy book she could get her hands on, including Fancy Nancy Splendiferous Christmas.

In this book Nancy is very excited because it is Christmas time. She loves everything about Christmas – finding and decorating the perfect tree, baking cookies, wrapping gifts, making Christmas cards, and visiting with family. In true Fancy Nancy fashion she goes overboard with all of her Christmas decorations.

Make Christmas Bark

Christmas bark is just about the easiest Christmas candy there is. It can be personalized with whatever you like. We made a Fancy Nancy Splendiferous Christmas version by adding plenty of colored sugar sprinkles. That type of sprinkle always reminds me of edible glitter . . . and Nancy adores glitter.

Ingredients:

  • Chocolate – whatever you like (I used a combination of milk chocolate and white chocolate)
  • Toppings – options include sprinkles, cookie pieces, candy pieces, pretzels, marshmallows, etc.

The method for making Christmas bark is pretty simple:

  1. Melt the chocolate (I used this microwave guide) and then spread the melted chocolate onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. Sprinkle on the toppings.
  3. Put the baking sheet into the refrigerator for several hours. It is ready once the chocolate has hardened.
  4. Break the chocolate into pieces. I cut pretty much slice the chocolate bark randomly until I end up with pieces into a variety of sizes.

Color Fancy Nancy Coloring Pages

Sometimes you just need a few quiet minutes to get things done. These printable Fancy Nancy coloring pages and activities are great.

Print out a few pages and leave them on the table with crayons and scissors. They would even work really well in a boredom busting basket. These Fancy Nancy coloring pages are even themed specifically for the Fancy Nancy Splendiferous Christmas book.

Have a Fancy Nancy Tea Party

Fancy Nancy loves a good tea party. My daughter loved to have tea parties with me when she was little. It is something that we still enjoy doing together even now that she is a teenager.

Materials:

  • A festive drink – decaf tea, apple cider, or hot cocoa
  • Treats – Christmas bark, cookies, brownies, fruit, etc. Treats do NOT have to be homemade

I like to use my wedding china for tea parties with my kids because it makes even a simple tea party feel fancy, but paper plates work just as well. Use whatever you have!

Fancy Nancy would definitely don feather boas and tiaras, so feel free to dress up!

Decorate Christmas Cards

In this book, Fancy Nancy decorates Christmas cards for her doll. Creating Christmas cards is a great activity because it works well for a variety of skill levels. Kids who are not confident writers can draw pictures. Beginning writers can copy text. Fluent writers can write their own holiday messages.

All you need is some paper and basic craft supplies. Crayons and markers will work perfectly.

Homemade Christmas cards are sure to make someone smile. Mail them to grandparents or attach a homemade treat and pass them out to your neighbors. This is an easy way to spread some holiday joy.
